Cheese Pupusa
Cheese pupusa is a traditional Salvadoran dish made of a thick corn tortilla filled with cheese. The tortilla is made by mixing masa (a type of corn dough) with water and then shaping it into a flat circle. The cheese filling is typically made from a combination of queso fresco and mozzarella. After the pupusa is assembled, it is cooked on a griddle until it is crisp and golden brown. Cheese pupusas are typically served with a side of curtido, a pickled cabbage slaw.Cheese pupusas are a good source of calcium and protein, thanks to the cheese filling. However, they are also relatively high in carbohydrates and calories due to the use of corn masa in the tortilla. As with most foods, cheese pupusas are best enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
